Techniques
String Drop Updates, Tips and Troubleshooting:
UPDATE: We have replaced the Allen Head Screw to hold the Extender Handle on with a Thumb Screw. There is no need for an Allen Wrench as shown in the videos. If you purchased a String Drop that included an Allen Head Screw and Wrench, contact us and we will send you a Thumb Screw at no cost.
TIP: Before tightening the nut to hold the String Drop in place, measure to see how much of the nylon screws on the back of the plate you will need. It’s easier to clip the nylon screws while they’re threaded in to the back plate. Most of the time, you won’t have to worry about the tab being exactly centered over the string.
Won’t tune up high enough with the fine tuner:
On some acoustic and electric guitars, it may be necessary to install the String Drop under the washer instead in between the nut and washer.
Can’t get the tab far enough over the string:
You may need to place the string drop at an angle to get more of the String Drop over the string.
The String Drop is in the way to use the tuner key:
You need to clip the nylon screws to length to where head of the screw is tight against the String Drop plate.
Extender Handle loosens up while attached to the String Drop:
Use a lock washer to hold the Thumb Screw in. You can purchase one for as little as 3 cents at your local hardware store. During the testing and designing of the String Drop this was never an issue, but a few customers have told us about this problem.
